The Most Important Thing About You

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”  Eph. 2:10

What is the most important thing about you? About me? Ephesians 2:10 gives us the answer in delightfully God-drenched opportunities.

Who are the “we” here? Very simple. You…me…and every single believer on the face of the earth. Past, present, and future. No exceptions. Therefore - please hear me well - there are no insignificant saints, no disposable believers, no unimportant children of God.  John Ruskin wrote, “No man is without a divinely appointed task, and a divinely-bestowed strength adequate for its fulfillment.” Amen.

Every believer is of immense value and importance. Not only because Christ died for them, but also because He wants to hold them forth as living, breathing exhibitions of His unrivaled grace and power. “For we are His workmanship…”. Literally, we are His “poiema”, His poem. We are His divine parchments, designed to display the creative and supernaturally inscribed penmanship of Christ. Every one of us is handcrafted by God to be a public display of Christ’s irrepressible beauty; a mighty billboard for the kingdom of God. “And they glorified God in me.” (Gal.1:24) is to belong to us as much as it did Paul. As John Calvin put it so well, “The first duty of the Christian is to make the invisible kingdom visible.”

Beyond this, every believer has a sum total of good works which God has designed and designated to be done through his or her life.“…created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” From eternity past, God sovereignly laid out all the good deeds He wants distributed through our lives. In other words, we don’t appear on the stage of life with an empty script and then try to figure out good things to do for God. Our script is already written, our part is already secured, our works are already prepared. Our calling now is simply “that we should walk in them”. Or to put it another way - just unload the cargo!

We are here to be and to do. To be walking, talking exhibitions of the extraordinary possibilities of resurrection power. To do works so important that they will make a dent in eternity. And so, I say it again. There are no insignificant saints, no disposable believers, no unimportant children of God. And that, most assuredly, includes you my friend.

Flashpoint: God created you for a part in this universe so big that it takes the angels’ breath away. Now...let Him play that part through you.
